Saturdays Are About to Become Super
New Program Launches at J.D. Shatford Memorial Public Library

Hubbards, NS – Beginning with September 15, Saturday mornings at the J.D. Shatford Memorial Public Library will become a hive of community activity as children and their parents take part in a new program called Super Saturdays.

“We are very proud to be launching a new program that will give families a dedicated time to get together, have fun, and build community experiences,” says Elaine Murray, Branch Manager at J.D. Shatford Memorial Public Library.

The J.D. Shatford Memorial Public Library has always programmed events for families, but for a variety of reasons Murray and her staff saw a need to revamp their strategy. They conducted a program analysis, which involved surveys and a review of other children-focused programs in the area. Based on the results, they designed a regular event that fit everyone’s needs. Super Saturdays is weekly, held at the same time, and includes popular activities, such as puppet shows, movies, science, and other interactive play.

“An event like Super Saturdays is simple, but it has more than one purpose,” says Murray. “This kind of program allows for families new to the area to feel a part of the community and it gives students living across county lines a chance to meet each other in a comfortable and safe space.”
