Hubbard Spoke, Libary Listened: New hours of Operation for J.D. Shatford Library

Halifax, N.S. — J.D. Shatford Memorial Public Library has an announcement that is sure to please the Hubbards community.

On Tuesday, July 2, the Library is implementing new hours of operation that include more convenient times for local visitors. The action was made in response to frequent demands for increased access “Hubbards is a special community filled with people who care deeply about their surroundings,” says Elaine Murray, Branch Manager. “As a part of this community, our library staff has a bit of the same spirit of persistent and wise action. They worked closely as a group and find ways to serve the public without undermining the demands of their own households. I am proud of their accomplishment and commitment.”

One of the “masterminds” behind the review of the hours was Kathy Jennex, a weekend supervisor at the library. She led the charge and as a result visitors can now enjoy services three hours longer on Thursdays and an hour longer on Friday afternoons. “I was impressed to see the amount of effort and creativity that was applied by the Shatford library staff,” says Kathleen Peverill, Director of Community Engagement. “They understood the community and committed themselves to finding a sustainable balance between resources and needs.” Interested visitors can find the new schedule online at halifaxpubliclibraries.ca, on the back page of the printed Library Guide, and several places on location.
