Who can use this space?
All Halifax Public Libraries cardholders have access to the Media Studio. To use the space, you must complete a short orientation session.

  • If you’re 12-years-old or older, you’ll have full access to the Media Studio after completing the orientation and agreeing to follow our usage guidelines.
  • If you’re under 12-years-old, you must be accompanied by a responsible adult who has completed an orientation session and has agreed to follow our usage guidelines.

How do I book an orientation session?
You can book an orientation in person at the Welcome Desk on the first floor of Central Library, or by calling 902-490-5706.

Why do I need to complete an orientation?
During the orientation session, staff will show you the equipment and software available in the Media Studio. You will also learn the policies and procedures that you need to follow while you’re in the Media Studio.

I’ve completed the orientation. How do I book time in one of the recording spaces?
If you would like to book recording time, visit us at the Welcome Desk on the first floor of Central Library or by calling 902-490-5706.

Is more advanced training available?

We are working on a group project. Can we all fit in the studio?
Yes! Small groups are welcome to use the Media Studio, provided they do not exceed the maximum of six people. Please let us know when booking time so we can reserve the larger recording space for you.

Can I save my work on the Media Studio computer?
All files will be wiped from the Media Studio computers after your session, so you will need to bring your own large-capacity storage device or have access to a cloud-based storage service in order to save your work.
