How Do I : Get free wireless Internet access?

To access the Library’s wireless Internet service, you need the following:

  1. a library card and PIN
  2. a laptop or handheld computer with a wireless card
    (802.11g or "Wifi" compatible)
  3. to be in or near one of our branch libraries

Most wireless cards will detect the Library’s signal automatically. If yours does not, you will have to do it manually. Follow the instructions on your computer (Windows XP has an icon that will let you "View Available Networks" when it is clicked). The name of the Library's hotspot is "Halifax Public Libraries."

When you open a browser such as Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox, you will see a screen asking for your library barcode and PIN. These will allow you to access the Internet.
