Email: Books by Mail
Hours of operation: Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.

The Books by Mail service is available to any resident of HRM, who does not reside in an area served by a branch. Check the Frequently Asked Questions for eligibility requirements.

To register for the Books by Mail service, call 490-5599, or for long distance, call 1-800-565-4414.

Materials are available in regular print, large print or talking book formats. The library’s postage rate through Canada Post only covers books, so we are unable to send DVDs, CDs or magazines. If you have access to a computer and the Internet, anyone with a library card can download eBooks, audiobooks and videos.

Once you are registered, you can select your own materials at any time by using Discover, the library’s online catalogue, or you can have staff select items for you, based on your interests.

Popular fiction or non-fiction titles may be selected from the Update, a free list of materials sent to Books by Mail clients every two months.

There is no cost to receive materials from Books by Mail. Halifax Public Libraries pays the postage both ways.
