Volunteering as an ELL Tutor

What a tutor does

English Language Learning (ELL) for Adults is a one-to-one and small group volunteer program where adults can improve their English communication skills with help from community volunteers. Programs take place at scheduled times in six different library branches. Tutors and learners usually meet once a week for two hours at one of the program locations and times.

The ELL for Adults program is not only an opportunity for language learning, but also for cultural exchange and understanding. Last year, more than 400 adults with more than 30 different first languages participated.

First time volunteers

If you are a first time volunteer, you need to fill out the library volunteer application and the ELL volunteer application. Please visit our volunteer page for the ELL Volunteer Application form, our Volunteer Policy, etc.
