Halifax Public Libraries Honours Staff, Volunteer, and Community Partners with New Awards

A big celebration animated Paul O’Regan Hall on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 as Halifax Public Libraries shared a year of success by honouring the people who helped make it happen.

People are at the heart of everything we do

“Achieving our vision requires great work on the part of our staff, many volunteers, and community organizations that partner with the Library,” said Paul Bennett, Chair of Halifax Regional Library Board. “The Library’s Board Impact Awards are an opportunity for the Library Board to acknowledge the great work being done through the Library, for the community.”

First public AGM for the Library

Amidst reports on achievements, greetings from Minister Leo A. Glavine and Mayor Mike Savage, live music by The Gatto Dolce Duo (from Symphony Nova Scotia), and a visual showcase of Library moments from the past year, three new awards were presented.

The award categories and winners of the 2017 Board Impact Awards:

  • The Staff Innovation Impact Award went to Anneka Janes for outstanding innovation in teen service delivery, resulting in a positive impact and improved service for our community.

  • The Volunteer Impact Award went to Don Bidgood for his distinct, significant, and lasting impact on Halifax Public Libraries and the community we serve through the delivery of Dartmouth Chess Club.

  • The Community Impact Award went to Halifax Community Learning Network for having a distinct, significant and lasting impact on Halifax Public Libraries and our community through their collaboration with Halifax Public Libraries on adult literacy services.

It's been a year of successes

This is the first year for the Board Impact Awards. Their inclusion in the Annual General Meeting falls in line with the Library’s new five-year strategic plan, which was launched in January along with a new brand.

In addition to the awards, Halifax Public Libraries presented its 2016-2017 Annual Report.
