Get Learning with Lynda

Meet your new best friend and mentor, Lynda

Lynda.com is an online learning platform that you can access for free with your Halifax Public Libraries library card. Lynda offers more than 4,000 video courses and tutorials taught by industry experts in a range of subjects including business, software, technology, creative skills, and more. 

Learning is limitless with Lynda's 24-hour unlimited access, and additional resources including in-course quizzes and exercise files to test out your skills. Users have the option to take individual courses, or follow subject-specific Learning Paths.

How to: Get started with Lynda

Using Lynda.com in your web browser:

  1. Select the E-Library menu from the navigation menu at the top of our website, and then click Lynda.com under the Resources heading, or visit and bookmark our organization's sign in page.
  2. Enter your library card barcode number and your PIN (usually the last 4 digits of your phone number, unless you have changed it).
  3. If you have never used Lynda.com before, select No, I’ve never had an account.
  4. Create your profile by filling in the fields and select Save.
  5. Browse Lynda’s library of courses and tutorials and start learning!

Using the Lynda.com app:

  1. Install the app from your device’s app store. The app is available for iOS, Android, Windows, Desktop, and Roku/Apple TV devices.
  2. Click Already a Lynda member?
  3. Click the Organization tab, find the Web Portal section and enter our organization URL: halifax.ca which will open a new Internet browser window.
  4. Enter your library card barcode number and PIN (usually the last 4 digits of your phone number, unless you have changed it) and accept the Terms of Service.
  5. Browse Lynda’s library of courses and tutorials and start learning!
  6. Note: Exercise files, notes, transcripts, and bookmarks are not currently available on the app.

What you can learn 

Lynda’s library contains a vast collection of courses in categories of: business, photography, graphic design, project management, animation, audio and music production, web design, marketing, job interview preparation, public speaking, and many more.

Whether you're fine tuning your trade, or starting something new, Lynda has all the tools you need to take your hobbies to the next level, and achieve your personal and professional goals.
