About Foldscope

What is Foldscope?

A Foldscope is a paper microscope that began as an idea to make science more accessible for everyone. It is made with paper, magnets, and a lens.

What can you see with a Foldscope?

A Foldscope lens has a magnification of 140x. With that, you can see tiny things like bacteria, blood cells, and single-celled organisms, as well as larger things like insects, fabrics, and tissues.

Support for Foldscope

The Foldscope instruments are suitable for ages 10+. Younger kids will have fun playing with them, but they’ll probably need adult or older sibling assistance to put these together.

If you need assistance with the assembly of your Foldscope, or are curious about different experiments you can try with it, please visit the Foldscope Instruments website, opens a new window

Our Library staff will also share their Foldscope discoveries online via our website and social channels. Stay tuned!
