The 2024 Municipal Election campaign is underway, and navigating the internet for accurate voting information can be challenging.

Know Your Vote is election information made simple.

Each box below is a question with a link to a reliable answer. Click the boxes below to know your vote.

  • September 10 - Nomination day

Voting Eligibility

Can I vote without a permanent address?

If you are living in a temporary location, such as a shelter or hostel, you may be eligible. Call 902-490-VOTE (8683) to confirm.

You can vote, if you are:

A Canadian citizen; 18 years or older; and has lived in Nova Scotia for six months, residing in HRM before the first advanced polling day.

Can I vote if I'm a university or college student?

Students attending a post-secondary institution can vote in Halifax, subject to the same basic voting requirements as all other residents.

Conseil scolaire acadien provincial (CSAP) elections

Residents must meet the voter qualifications, and be an "Entitled Person" as defined by the Education Act to vote in school board elections.

What is my voting district?

Your voting district is based on where you live. Please note that there have been recent electoral district boundary changes, which means that the electoral district you reside in may have changed for the 2024 Election.

Districts 1 to 8

District 1

If you call Waverley-Fall River-Musquodoboit Valley your home, then you are District 1.

District 2

If you call Lawrencetown-The Lakes-Chezzetcook-Eastern Shore your home, then you are District 2.

District 3

If you call Dartmouth South-Woodside-Eastern Passage your home, then you are District 3.

District 4

If you call Cole Harbour-Preston-Westphal-Cherry Brook your home, then you are District 4.

Districts 9 to 16

District 9

If you call Halifax West-Armdale your home, then you are District 9.

District 10

If you call Halifax-Bedford Basin West your home, then you are District 10.

District 11

If you call Spryfield-Sambro Loop your home, then you are District 11.

District 12

If you call Timberlea-Beechville-Clayton Park-Wedgewood your home, then you are District 12.

Voting

Am I on the Voters' List?

Use HRM's online Voters List search tool, or call 902-490-VOTE (8683) to verify if you are on the elector's list for the Municipal Election.

Where do I go to vote in person? And when?

You can vote at the polling stations in your district. Click to use the voter search online. Or you can call 902-490-VOTE (8683).

I am unable to vote on Election Day. What do I do?

You can vote during advanced polling dates on October 12 and 15. You can also. vote online or by phone from October 8-16.

Do I need to bring ID or a letter to vote in person?

ID or a voter letter is not required to vote in person. If you are not on the Voters' List, you must take an oath/affirmation to vote.

Yes, you can bring someone with you to translate info into your preferred language or sign language.

I need assistance to vote. What services are available?

Call 902-490-VOTE (8683) or email elections@halifax.ca to make special arrangements. Or ask the deputy returning officer for assistance.
