Halifax Public Libraries is looking for artists to submit works for Shiny Happy People: Gender Euphoria in Art, an exhibition celebrating Halifax’s 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
Helping spark gender euphoria
Gender euphoria is a concept developed within the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. It commonly describes the positive feelings that transgender, nonbinary, and gender-creative people experience when they are able to express and celebrate their authentic gender identity, and have that identity affirmed by others.
As a counterpoint to gender dysphoria—which represents the painful experience of gender misalignment—gender euphoria calls up joyful, confident, and hopeful feelings.
With hard-won shifts in public attitudes, public health policy, and community services, more and more folks feel a sense of euphoria about their gender. But what does gender euphoria look like? How might this sensation be represented and shared?
Halifax Public Libraries' 2SLGBTQIA+ Team invites members of Halifax’s 2SLGBTQIA+ community to submit works on the theme of gender euphoria, to be featured in an exhibition this fall at The Sunroom, opens a new window, Halifax Central Library’s art exhibition space.
Shiny Happy People: Gender Euphoria in Art is an exhibition and celebration of the vibrant diversity of Halifax’s 2SLGBTQIA+ community. This is an opportunity for local artists to show their shine, strut their stuff, and command the attention they deserve. An opening reception will launch the exhibition. Works will be displayed through October and November 2022.
