Learning English can be hard, but with your help, we can do it
When you arrive to Halifax from another county, there is much to learn. Add a language barrier, and your experience can be daunting.
Luckily, the Library is a free solution for all newcomers. We pair English-speaking volunteers with learners at the same time and place each week. Library staff offer support and the experience is always rewarding.
Could this English Tutor be you?
At Halifax North, on Gottingen Street, we have lots of learners, and not as many English tutors. If you have time and an interest in meeting people from other countries and cultures, then together we can make a big difference in one more newcomer's life and sense of belonging. No experience is necessary.
Volunteer applications are being accepted at many of our locations providing the English Language Learning Program. See the full list of ELL programs on our information page.
At this time, we are in particular need at:
Halifax North
Mondays, 1:00 - 3:00 PM
Tuesdays, 6:00 - 8:00 PM
