A HPL Volunteer Blogger's Life - Article by Julia, Teen Blogger

Posted on 22-Jul-16 08:19
I started Blogging with the library when I was 12 years old, and now that I’m 17 I feel like I can say a little something about blogging for the library. I had so much fun with it as being a library blogger meant I could write reviews of my favourite books. After all, I am a book-crazed girl who can’t get her hands on enough books, so being a blogger for the library felt just right. I came up with the idea of asking authors for online interviews and the library even brought them to us in person through our local branches! It was fantastic to talk to the creators of so many books that we bloggers read and loved. However, our blogging didn’t stop with reviews and interviews...

Wereduck by Dave Atkinson – Interview by Julia, Teen Blogger

Posted on 17-Oct-14 07:01
I first met Dave at Word on the Street where our local library was hosting author readings and holding Q&A sessions. I discovered not only does this new author have witty comebacks and a good sense of humour, he is a good natured man. Yet as soon as I read the title to his book, I knew I had to read it to see what it was about. Imagine picking up a book with a duck on the cover with the title in a bold red: Wereduck. Any sane person would take a double take...

Divergent Movie - Review by Julia, Teen Blogger

Posted on 18-Jul-14 08:24
Set in a post-apocalyptic Chicago that is walled off from the rest of the world by a massive rampart, Divergent imagines a society in which the citizens are divided into five factions according to personality. The Abnegation faction, an ascetic class given to self-sacrifice, controls the municipal government. Amity, a community of 'hippie'-like agrarians, work in the fields farming; Candor runs the courts, law, and justice system; and the Erudite pursue scientific advancement as they are scientists, doctors, and researchers. Security is left in the hands of the Dauntless, a group of soldiers so fearless they might better be called the 'Young and the Reckless'.

Sailing – Article by Julia, Teen Blogger

Posted on 18-Feb-14 12:28
Every year, Halifax hosts an International Boat Show, a chance to see all of the newest sail boats. This year, the show will be held at Exhibition Park on February 20-23. I’ve been sailing since I was 9. Sure, sailing and I had a pretty rocky relationship considering we’ve been off and on again, but for several years now, we have been going strong! In total, I’ve been sailing for 4 years now and I must admit, I hated sailing for the first 2 years...

Lauren Oliver - Interview by Julia, Teen Blogger

Posted on 03-Feb-14 14:30
This was such a nice interview! I loved doing this with Lauren and had a very good time doing it. She has such a beautiful writing style that contributes to her amazing stories. They make such a nice combination while tied in with her amazing book covers (which attracted me in the first place). I really started to fawn over her books this past year when choosing which book to read first from the many that I was given as Christmas presents (deciding is always a big brain battle!).

S.J. Kincaid - Interview by Julia, Teen Blogger

Posted on 05-Dec-13 15:54
My new obsession and favourite book series is S.J. Kincaid’s, The Insignia Series! I only picked up Insignia because it was on my Battle of the Books list but, of course, I had to just fall deeply and madly in love with it. I ended up fangirling to my friends every lunch hour, and sometimes during class, for a week. I made fan art, jewelry, and goofy little writing projects. I really loved this book because of how much it reminded me of the Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card. But Insignia sings it’s own unique song. It plays on the sweet genre on sci-fi and fantasy and it has over 300 sweet measures (pages) of pure awesomeness. Today, I feel very lucky to be able to share an interview that I did with S.J. Kincaid...

REPOST-I’m so happy that I could do this author interview with Heather Dixon and I had quite a good time doing it too! I first came across Heather’s work last year when I joined my school’s Battle of the Books team. Her book, Entwined, was on our 2013 Reading List and the book’s cover art and story was so enchanting that I googled her book,Entwined, and found her images on deviantART.
