Scenes from African Heritage Month Opening Night 2026

We kicked off African Heritage Month 2026 with an unforgettable Opening Night celebration at Halifax Central Library's Paul O'Regan Hall on Wednesday, January 28. Filled with music, joy, and togetherness, it was a night to celebrate Black brilliance.

The evening featured powerful musical performances, heartfelt reflections from local leaders, and a true sense of community. From soulful sounds to energizing beats, the night set the perfect tone for a month of celebration, learning, and connection.

In partnership with the Black History Month Association and the Office of Diversity & Inclusion/ANSAIO, we came together to honour this year's provincial theme: "Strength in Unity – Moving Forward with Purpose, Prosperity, Power and Progress."
