The Lou Duggan Creative Studio is a home for makers and creators, a place for beginners and experts. We are a tech-filled modern makerspace, where you can start something new and try something different. Where you can be sewing, crafting, 3D printing, or some other form of creation.
How you make a difference
Volunteers are a significant part of our success. You bring creativity and community knowledge into the Library for all to access. Consider joining our team if you:
- Have a high level of skill and experience in one or more of the following creative activities: general crafting, sewing/knitting, fibre arts, 3D printing, and makerspace technology projects.
- Want to share your skills, interests, and enthusiasm with community members.
- Gain new skills and confidence by helping others.

Sewing DIY Drop-in Volunteer
Are you interested in helping people with their individual sewing projects?
The Lou Duggan Creative Studio at Central Library is looking for a volunteer for their weekly Sewing DIY Drop-in. The program takes place Mondays from 2:00-5:00pm. The ideal volunteer candidate has the following:
- Intermediate to advanced sewing skills
- Is comfortable using sewing machines
- Able to help patrons with a variety of projects, such as basic construction, hemming, mending, adding zippers, button holes, etc.
- Experience with fibre arts such as knitting, crochet, and embroidery is a bonus
Halifax Central Library
Mondays, 2:00-5:00pm
