Captain William Spry Public Library is Danielle Dempsey’s neighbourhood library. Growing up in Herring Cove, Danielle saw her Library go through significant changes since childhood when she first visited the Library to attend puppet shows and read books with her mother.
Danielle is part of a growing group of community members who have committed to providing monthly donations to their public library.
“My hope for the donation is to continue offering a window to the world. I believe every bit counts.” Monthly donors have a tremendous impact on library service in the community.
“This Library still surprises me today, like the hydroponics upstairs, which is so neat. I only recently discovered this!”

As an avid reader, Danielle finds something magical about the ease of holds and pick-up services offered at every Library branch. “The idea that I can just put a book on hold, come pick it up, read it, and bring it back—for free? It’s like magic.”
Thinking of her time as a student when she was working on her thesis and would often head to her neighbourhood Library to study, Danielle says, “It just felt like an easy choice. I knew the Library would be a calm place to work, free Wi-Fi was a huge factor too, and just being surrounded by community was comforting.”

“People hear 'libraries,' and they think books. I believe people should hear 'library' and think 'community'.” Monthly donors are important to Halifax Public Libraries, and Danielle's monthly gift helps her Library go above and beyond for the community.
