Curbside Pick-up Service at Dartmouth North Public Library
While Dartmouth North Public Library remains closed due to damage sustained to the Dartmouth North Community Centre building on March 6, Halifax Public Libraries is set to open a temporary portable unit for Curbside Pick-up service on Thursday, September 4. This marks a welcome return in the community, and lays the groundwork for future Library offerings out of the space.
Curbside pick-up service will be offered at 105 Highfield Park Drive, on the following days:
- Thursday, September 4: 1:00-5:00pm
- Friday, September 5: 1:00-5:00pm
- Saturday, September 6: 1:00-5:00pm
- Sunday, September 7: Closed
How does Curbside pick-up work?
1. Select an item to borrow from our collection.
Browse our online catalogue to place a hold using your library account and choose Dartmouth North as your preferred pick-up location—just like you’re used to!
2. Notification: Your holds are ready!
If you placed a hold through our website, you will receive an email or phone notification when your holds are ready to check out, and let you know how long they'll be available to pick up.
3. Visit your temporary Library.
Visit the temporary portable unit at 105 Highfield Park Drive for your items. You can either knock on the door or ring the doorbell to speak with a friendly staff member, who will retrieve your hold.
Library staff can retrieve your hold using your library card or a piece of ID.
4. Enjoy your items!
Items borrowed from Curbside Pick-up follow the usual borrowing periods.
Our Book Drop is open for returns—now located directly beside the temporary portable unit. If you're returning a larger item that does not fit in the drop, please follow Step #3 above to return the item(s).
Coming soon: Limited service at Dartmouth North Public Library
In the coming weeks, your temporary Dartmouth North Public Library will increase service and offer the community:
- Hold pick-up and returns
- Limited computer access
- Library card registration
- Free WiFi
- Friendly staff on-site

Library staff are pleased to offer outdoor programming for children on Friday’s from 1:30 - 4:00 pm (weather permitting).

On March 6, the Dartmouth North Community Centre sustained significant flood damage, impacting recreation programming and Library services. Assessment and remediation work is ongoing. Unfortunately, the public cannot access the facility or book drops right now and it will remain closed until further notice.
There are still ways to interact with your Library while the building is closed.
Free Public WIFI
The community can access free public WIFI around the Dartmouth North Community Centre.
There may be WIFI disruptions or space limitations while work is being done on the property.
E-Library
Our E-Library is open 24/7, and your Library card gives you access to digital books, audiobooks, magazines, newspapers, movies, music, and much more. We encourage you to explore all that our free E-Library has to offer during this change in service.
Change Holds Pick Up Location
You can change your holds pick up location temporarily during the closure. It is simple to change your pick-up location when placing a hold online. Explore a New Public Library or Library Kiosk
Halifax Public Libraries has 14 locations and five Library Kiosks, opens a new window located at:
- Halifax Stanfield International Airport (two kiosks)
- St. Andrew's Recreation Centre in Bayers Westwood
- Gordon R. Snow Community Centre in Fall River
- Horizon Recreation Centre in Eastern Passage

We also have plenty of Community Return Locations, and items can be returned to any Library branch, regardless of where the items were originally borrowed.
Fine-Free Library
Halifax Public Libraries is fine-free. That means you will not be charged for overdue materials, and can enjoy worry-free borrowing. Any items borrowed before the branch closed will be extended; you will not be charged any fines or fees.
