We’ve made an important change to how you can request digital titles (e-books and downloadable audiobooks) at Halifax Public Libraries. Requests for these formats have moved from our Suggestion for Purchase (SFP) form to Libby’s Notify Me tag function.
What’s Changed
-
You will no longer see an option to suggest digital titles through our online Suggestion for Purchase form.
-
Instead, you can now use Notify Me tags directly in Libby when you identify an e-book or audiobook the Library doesn’t yet own.
How Notify Me Works
-
When you search in Libby, titles the Library doesn’t own may show up with a Notify Me option instead of Borrow or Hold. (See video below under 'Learn More' section.)
-
You can also use Libby’s Deep Search function to find titles that aren’t currently in our collection. (See video below under 'Learn More' section, or click below to expand gallery sample images.)
-
Add the Notify Me tag to any title you’d like us to consider. If the Library purchases the title you've tagged, you’ll receive a notification in Libby (and on your device if you have push notifications turned on). Please note: you’ll still need to place a hold if you want to borrow the book—Notify Me does not automatically add you to the waitlist.
-
You will no longer receive notifications in your Suggestion for Purchase section of your user account for recommended (Notify Me-tagged) digital titles via Libby.
Why This is Better for You
-
You can only tag titles that are available for us to buy in Libby, so you won’t waste time requesting items that don’t exist in digital form or aren’t available for libraries.
-
There’s no limit on how many Notify Me tags you can use.
-
This frees up your two monthly Suggestion for Purchase requests for print books, DVDs, and other physical items.
-
You’ll be notified directly in Libby when a title you tagged becomes available.
Our Collection Development team has been monitoring Notify Me tags for some time, and many readers are already using them. By switching fully to Notify Me for digital requests, we’ll be able to streamline the process, respond more efficiently, and make better purchasing decisions for our community.
