My First Pizzeria Donair – Article by Ben, Teen Blogger

Have you ever heard of a donair?

Donair - photoIn this blog, I am going to talk about the donair and the history of it.

I am going to tell you how to make a donair.

I am also going to talk about when I ate my first pizzeria donair!

A donair is a delicious food that can be bought at pizza shops around HRM. If you have been listening to the news lately, you may have heard that the donair has become Halifax’s official food.

There are a few steps in the production of the donair. First, you start by frying the flat bread in some oil. Then, you cut some pieces of meat from the loaf of meat. You then fry the meat in oil and then put it on the bread. To finish it off, you put the special sauce which is made of condensed milk, sugar, garlic, and vinegar. Next, put the onions and the tomatoes on the donair and then you are done.

The donair is a good food if you need a lunch on the go. The donair is of Turkish or Greek origin. It can also be called the following, donors, gyros, doner kebabs, kebabs or donners. Some people believe that Mahmut Aygun, who was a Turkish immigrant, invented the donair in Berlin, Germany, in the year of 1971. If you would like to find out more information on donairs (Ex: history), go to donair.org.

I had my first pizzeria donair during the Christmas of 2015. We went to a local pizzeria close to where I live. I went there with my sister and my uncle Luke. My sister ordered a regular slice of pizza. Uncle Luke ordered a slice of pizza that had the donair meat, sauce, and onions and tomatoes. I ordered my very first pizzeria donair! When I took the first bite, it was really, really good!Out of Nova Scotia Kitchens - book cover

I hope you enjoyed my story. I hope you learned a little bit about the donair in my blog. Here is a book with a donair recipe. Try the recipe in the book, find another recipe online, or use one that you know of.
