Summer...What to do? by Talia, Teen Blogger

Let's have three cheers because it's summer time!!! Hip Hip HOORAY! Hip Hip HOORAY! Hip Hip HOORAAAY!
So it's finally here. The best time of the year. Summer! No school, you can sleep in, stay up late, go swimming at the beach, have bonfires.... the list is endless! So what are your summer plans? If you don't know yet, never fear, I have some awesome ideas all lined up for you.

Get a summer job: This is a great way to earn some extra money to save up for university, go to movies, or spend at the mall! Plus it gives you valuable work experience and will keep your days filled up so you don't have to worry about getting bored.

Volunteer somewhere: Always wanting to help out at the SPCA down the road? Or spend some more time at the library? Well the summer is the best time to do it because you don't have to worry about juggling volunteering and schoolwork. It's perfect because you are able to help make a difference in your community and have fun at the same time.

Make new friends: I mean, you never can have too many right? So why don't you join a club or sports team or visit the library to meet people with the same interests as you! Just smile, go up to someone and start talking. You'd be surprised at how many people want to do the same but are too shy, so make the first move and you might find yourself a friend for life.

Learn a new language: Wanting to brush up your French skills? Or learn Spanish? Or maybe even Korean so you can talk to the nice exchange student? Well now's the time to learn! Set aside a bit of time everyday to learn new words and practice and you will be surprised at how improved you will be at the end of the summer! If you can round up some friends to practice with you makes it even easier as you can learn to carry on conversations in a whole other language.

Get in shape: Want to hit the 15 push up mark, be able to run 2k, or finally be able to do the splits? Well I say go for it! The weather is perfect this time of year so it's great for running and getting fit. Set a goal and work towards it. You'll be there in no time.

Try something new: Always wanted to try acting? Do you want to learn how to swim? Try and find some recreational classes or camps that teach the basics and give it a try! You'll never know whether you will like it or not if you don't try. You could even try something completely out of your comfort zone like horseback riding or bungee jumping and who knows? Maybe you'll find a new passion!

Read some books: I mean who DOESN'T like finding a good book? Sometimes it's hard to find time to read books during the school year, but you don't have to worry about that anymore! So put on some sun block, grab some sunglasses and your favourite book and go lay in a hammock and read to your heart's content!
