The Rithmatist by Brandon Sanderson - Review by Talia, Teen Blogger

The RithmatiThe Rithmatisit - book coverst by Brandon Sanderson

I was a little apprehensive when I started reading this book. I’ve read lots of fantasy books, and while I really enjoy a few of them, I find that they are often predictable and a little dry. But not this one! I was hooked after chapter 1. It’s a fresh new idea that I’ve never heard of before. It’s about a boy, Joel, who goes to a special school where they teach you how to draw and battle with chalk. Way cool, right? The only problem is Joel isn’t a Rithmatist – which means he can’t get his chalk drawings to move. Life is normal (well, as normal as a school can be where people battle with drawings) until students start disappearing and Joel is tangled up in a mystery bigger than he ever could have imagined. Filled with lots of twists and turns it’s sure to keep you on the edge of your seat all the way through. The only thing I didn’t like about this book was that it didn’t end! It’s not a cliff-hanger, but it does leave you waiting for the next installment.

Overall, I’d definitely recommend this to anyone who loved books similar to Harry Potter. It’s a light, easy read that will delight and excite readers of all ages!
