Wondrous Strange by Lesley Livingstone – Review by Cecilia, Teen Blogger

Wondrous Strange Book CoverCanadian author, Lesley Livingston, knows how to spin a tale. In Wondrous Strange, her debut novel, she gives us a story of a young girl and her struggle to discover her heritage and identity.

Kelly Winslow, a 17 year-old-girl, is an actor in a Broadway company that, according to the book cover, is “so far off-Broadway it might as well be in Hoboken”. One day, when she goes into Central Park to practice, she is seen by Sonny, a Janus Guard, who guards the gates between the world of faeries and humans. Sonny is drawn to Kelly, like to a firecracker, and he becomes obsessed with her (calling her "his" firecracker). As the story developed, I became more and more sucked into the novel. Kelly and Sonny have such strong personalities that, when combined with the characters, Oberon, Mab, Tiffany, and yes, even Puck, you get one of the most original and funny faery books that a Canadian author has written.

Wondrous Strange is a perfect debut novel for fantasy and faery lovers. People who like Holly Black, Melissa Marr and Libba Bray will love Lesley Livingston.

This book is a wonderful introduction to the world of faery.
