In The Sunroom: My Home, My Rights

On display from April 30 to May 31, 2023 in The Sunroom at Central Library, opens a new window, My Home, My Rights multimedia exhibit.

My Home, My Rights is an action research collective bringing together community and academic partners to imagine and advocate for disability justice. They are dedicated to promoting the rights of persons with intellectual disabilities and other disabilities to live in the community as equals.

On display are photo portraits, expressive of participants’ sense of disability justice and injustice at home and in the community, and their respective reflections. As well, the exhibit features three short videos made by the collective.

These include: “The Right to Decide” (on the right to choose where, with whom and how you live), “House Rules” (on distinguishing respectful disability support from institutional control), and “Social Assistance” (on the many ways persons with disabilities are denied their right to community inclusion). Each video brings out the unique personalities and humour of My Home, My Rights members, while driving home fundamental human rights principles.
