Lobby Doors Open at Alderney Gate Public Library

The renovations at Alderney Gate Public Library have hit a milestone.

The main entrance into the Library from 60 Alderney Drive has now reopened. Staff are excited to have the space opened up again, and we are curious to see how the community uses the new gathering space.

Library lobby and staff workroom are flowing

A new staff workroom has been completed. Staff are now working in a bright, open space. The new tile flooring in the lobby runs to the bottom of the stairs, to the double doors of the staff work room, and past the new service desk. There's a new shelf to display recent materials with movable display fixtures to come.

Street entrance remains

Everyone can continue to use the door on Alderney Drive, which acted as the temporary entrance during construction.

Public art display on the way

The public art piece, which will be installed high on the wall facing Alderney Drive, will be created by Jason Skinner. Read the announcement, opens a new window.

We are in the home stretch now

More work is close to completion, but we're not there yet.

The universal washroom, near the base of the escalators, elevated seating area, and accessible book chute are in the final stages. We'll be applying some finishing touches, such as lighting, live plants for the boxes, digital screen for information sharing, and relocating where some items are displayed on shelves, public computers, self-checks, and holds.

Many thanks to community members for their patience and the staff for continuing to provide excellent service to the community through noise and changes during construction projects.
