Duplicate of Shane Koyczan's "To This Day" by Gina, Teen Blogger

Bullying is unquestionably one of the most significant ways youth get hurt.

By just being aware and looking around us, we get a hint of bullying everywhere: youth being excluded at school, name-calling in the hallway, etc.

Even though there are many people who try to stop bullying, it doesn’t quite seem to end, which is wrong.

“To This Day” is spoken word poetry by a Canadian poet, Shane Koyczan, recounting what bullying did to him and other people around him. I found it amazingly influential and astonishing. He expresses words in a living melody that escorts you into the depths of his work and moves you.

“But at night
while the others slept
we kept walking the tightrope
it was practice
and yeah
some of us fell”

“Despite everyone who told you to quit
you built a cast around your broken heart
and signed it yourself
you signed it
'they were wrong'”

These are some of the lines that I considered rather impressive. I’m sure a lot of people were inspired by his words too.

By sharing this poem, I hope to make everyone think about bullying and about the way words can be used against others.  No one has to be friends with everyone, but making an action against someone, or a comment about others, needs careful second thought because it can affect their future.
