New and Exciting Teen Reads by Emily, Teen Blogger

School can keep you busy with homework, tests, projects and extracurricular activities filling most, if not all, of your time. Except… what if miraculously you have some downtime? What are you going to do then? Look no further folks, because I will give you just the right books to read when you’re bored senseless. They’ll take you into a wonderful world that is ever so slightly different from your own, or thousands of magical miles away.

The Diviners book cover

If you enjoy flappers, New York and murders… Check out Libba Bray’s new book, The Diviners, which is based in 1920’s New York City, full of speakeasies and devoid of alcohol… out in the open, that is. Evie has moved and fits right into the city that never sleeps, but she has no idea what she’s gotten herself into. When some mysterious murders take place, Evie decides she has to help by using her mystical ability to try and catch the killer.

Burn for Burn book cover

If you prefer a more realistic approach… Be sure to find Siobhan Vivian and Jenny Han’s first book in their new trilogy, Burn for Burn. As far as I can tell, this book is told from the perspective of three different girls - Kat, Lillia and Mary - who live in the same little place of Jar Island. All three girls unite over their need to take revenge on different people, and they’re not to be messed with. Who knows what could happen when these angry girls get together?

Finale - book cover

If you think you’d like a good read and an evil one… Try Finale by Becca Fitzpatrick. It’s the final book in the Hush, Hush series. I’ll admit that the title isn’t the most exciting, but I think fans of the series can forgive that for the fabulous final installment.  Patch is back, but I can’t say too much more without giving everything away for those that haven’t read the first books. I will say that some old enemies return and once again stir up trouble for Patch and Nora. Finale came out in October, so don’t wait any longer, get your paranormal fix and check this book out!

The Kill Order - book coverIf you like action/adventure novels… You should certainly read The Kill Order by James Dashner, which is the prequel to The Maze Runner. I know that a lot of fans have been dying to know why the boys are in the maze, or why there even is a maze. Well, this book will answer all your questions (hopefully). This book isn’t quite as new, since it came out on August 14, but still! It’s a bestseller worth mentioning for all you hardcore fans out there!

If you’ve seen a book you like, be sure to place it on hold at the library! Some of the books listed may not belong to the library yet, but you can change that. In case you didn’t know, there’s a button at the very bottom of the homepage that says “Suggest a Purchase”. With that, you can request any book that you’d like the library to buy, with up to ten suggestions per month! While they can’t buy every book you may want, the library will do their best to buy the most popular suggestions, and if they do purchase a book you want, they’ll even place it on hold for you as soon as it’s processed! My favourite thing about that system is that sometimes you can get books from the library that are brand new without having to pay a penny for them!

Happy Reading!
