Cooking Up A Storm: A Cookbook of the Halifax North Branch Library Women’s Group

In 1994, the Halifax North Branch Library Women's Group compiled a collection of recipes and memories from the North End to celebrate their 15th anniversary. For the first time since its creation, the cookbook has been digitized so it can continue to be shared and enjoyed for years to come!

From the Cookbook's Introduction

"In the beginning, [Women's Group] meetings were held in the North Branch's basement room (now a staff room). Presently, we are enjoying the newly renovated space in the Terry Symonds Auditorium. Over the years, the women have raised concerns about issues both local and global. We have had guests from South Africa, Jamaica, Cuba, and St. Vincent through the auspices of Oxford Canada. We have held regular Wednesday events in February to celebrate Black History Month. We have celebrated a number of our women with the YWCA at their Women's Recognition dinner. It is this Women's Group that helped get the upgrading program started at the North Branch Library, a number being the first participants to join."

"But it is the caring and sharing that takes place on a weekly basis that keeps us all going strong - Cooking Up A Storm!"
