We’re Here to Stay, Eastern Passage

Welcoming party

On September 6, Eastern Passage welcomed its new Library kiosk to the Tallahassee Recreation Centre, opens a new window, and community members got the chance to meet their new neighbour. The new kiosk serves as a Library resource for residents of Eastern Passage, offering a new way to borrow books.

Halifax Public Libraries was on site to introduce the kiosk to members of the community, and demonstrate how it works: Scan your library card, enter the PIN, open the door, and take your pick. It didn't take long for the crowd to catch on.

Something for everyone

"I'd like to try it, but I don't have a library card," said one community member—but that wasn't a problem. The Library had a sign-up desk at the recreation centre, and welcomed several new Library cardholders.

The kiosk has books for everyone to enjoy, and people of all ages gave it a try. We even had to refill the kiosk later in the afternoon!

Not only did kids have their pick of books from the kiosk, they also had the chance to test out the Library's Dash and Dot Robots, and sit in on storytime with Mother Goose.

We're here to stay

The new kiosk is now available for everyone in the community to enjoy. Once a book is ready to be returned, it can be dropped in the Tallahassee Recreation Centre return box, or at any branch of Halifax Public Libraries.

If you happen to stop by the recreation centre, don't forget to say hello to Eastern Passage's newest resident.

Did you know? Our community kiosks are entirely donor funded? This is just one of the ways generous donors help enhance Library services and increase Library access.
