All About Grab & Go Kits

In the age of social distancing and Library closures, Library staff dreamed up many new ways to reach and entertain community members. The Grab & Go Kit—fully stocked activity bags or boxes filled with creative items and a guide—has become a staple of Library service, and it's here to stay.

Learn a little bit more about these kit creations, and how you can grab and go with your own!

What kinds of kits do you have?

Our kits are ever-changing and growing based on community needs an interests. While some kits, like our STEAM at Home Kits for kids are ongoing and sometimes tied to virtual programming (for example, you pick up a robot kit and then attend a "How to Use Your Robot Kit" virtual program); other kits are temporary—perhaps tied to a holiday (like Eid Al Adha Craft Kits) or season (like S'mores to Go Kits).

Some kits are for kids, some for teens, and some for adults—and many are for all ages!

Some kits are available at Library branches, and some have been created by staff at specific branches for their local community members.

You can always find out what kits are available by:

  • Calling your local branch
  • Asking at Curbside Pick-up or your Library Info Desk
  • Checking out this link, which we keep as up-to-date as possible

What's in my kit?

Your kit will come with:

  • The supplies needed to make your craft, recipe, or project
  • An item overview and description
  • A guide (if required)
  • If applicable: Additional details on contests, sharing your creation, or taking part in a program

You may need to provide some basic materials of your own to complete the project, e.g. glue or scissors.

How do I get a kit?

We love creating kits! They are often very popular, so supplies are limited and distributed on a first-come, first-served basis; or by a registration process in branch or online.

To grab and go with your very own kit, first you'll need to know what kits are available to you.

You can ask about and find out how to sign up for a kit by:

  • Calling your local branch
  • Asking at Curbside Pick-up or your Library Info Desk
  • Checking out this link, which we keep as up-to-date as possible

I've used my kit! What do I do now?
