Project overview 

The Site 

The new facility will be built on the land at 22835 Highway #7, opens a new window in Sheet Harbour, the current home of Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency Station 28. 

Who is the architect? 

The contract for the design of the facility was awarded to Architecture49 Inc, opens a new window. in November 2023, through an RFP process. 

What is the timeline?

Construction is expected to break ground in spring/summer 2025 and the facility is expected to be completed in spring 2027. Updates will be listed on this web page, opens a new window.

Will the Library close during the renovation? 

Library service will be maintained during the renovation, although things might look different at times. 

Will the Eastern Shore Lifestyle Centre and the Sheet Harbour Public Library we accessible and sustainable?

The facility will be designed to meet Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification (RHFAC) Gold as well as Canada Green Building Council’s Zero Carbon Design Standard.

Has there been public consultation?

Residents were invited to share their thoughts on the design concept during multiple in-person public engagement opportunities in April, May, and October 2024.
