The Countdown is On! Finishing Touches to Keshen Goodman Public Library Are Underway

Keshen Goodman Public Library has been under construction since October of 2022, and excitement is building for it's full re-opening this July.

From January to February 2024, Keshen Goodman Public Library underwent a temporary closure to accommodate some major updates, including the installation of its new rooftop mechanical unit, refreshing holds shelving, and returning some equipment into the space. With this work complete, we're happy to share that these behind-the-scenes updates brought us much closer to project completion, and it's official: the countdown to a full reopening of Keshen Goodman Public Library is on!

At this time, a return to full service is anticipated for July 2024. Throughout the Spring and Summer months, renovations will be ramping up as we finalize the interior of the branch, bring furniture in, and return items from our collection back into the Library. We want to thank you for your continued patience on this major renovation project, and our staff can't wait to welcome you into this refreshed community space!

In the meantime, here are a few updates on what's happening at Keshen Goodman Public Library.

A Look Inside

Pops of colour, playful textures, and modern, bright spaces await you at the updated Keshen Goodman Public Library! While we're not ready for the full reveal, here's a sneak peek inside the branch. Can you spy the dreamy cloud-shaped baffling on the ceiling?

Public Art by Andrea Tsang Jackson

Last summer, Halifax Regional Municipality issued a call for proposals, opens a new window for the design of an original work of art to be installed within the newly redesigned children's area of Keshen Goodman Public Library. We are happy to announce that Andrea Tsang Jackson submitted the successful proposal, and work has begun in the children's area of the Library. A vibrant space to play and explore—we can't wait to share what Andrea has planned for Keshen Goodman.

Andrea Tsang Jackson is a textile artist, quilt designer, author and educator. After working in various design fields and settings ranging from architecture to museums, the quilting medium called to her as a way to explore place, belonging, and agency. Her work has been published in Flare, DesignLines, Design Milk Everyday, Uppercase, and various quilting publications. Andrea’s first book, Patchwork Lab: Gemology, was published by Lucky Spool in 2019. Her forthcoming title with Nine Ten Publications explores aspects of creative practice specifically for quilt makers. Learn more about the artist., opens a new window

Events Are Back in Action

If you've visited Keshen Goodman Public Library recently, you may have noticed the return of some much-beloved programming. With the completion of the updated Thomas Raddall Room, community members can expect to find more fun moments popping up around the branch over the coming months.

While the Library continues to follow its limited service model, opens a new window, sunny days ahead mean a return to programming in our Outdoor Library is also just around the corner.
