Halifax Public Libraries collects materials related to Halifax County and Nova Scotia. The Library also collects select materials about New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland. If you have materials you would like to donate, or have recently published a book, please consult the donations policy, or call 490-5710. The Library also accepts cash donations, which can be used to purchase new or rare materials.

  • postcards
  • published family histories
  • ships, shipping and shipwrecks
  • songbooks
  • studies on culture, economy, institutions, transportation, sports, etc
  • telephone and city directories
  • vintage tourist pamphlets and guidebooks

Sorry, we cannot accept:

  • archival manuscripts and records
  • artifacts
  • musty, water-damaged, missing pages or highlighted passages
  • photographs
  • unpublished family histories
