How To: Use the Atlantic Provinces Business-to-Business Directory

We have a ton of useful business books in our collection, but there is one weighty tome that stands out amongst the rest: the Atlantic Provinces Business-to-Business Sales and Marketing Directory.

Who needs this?

Everyone in business will find valuable information in this book, but we often show it to new business owners during our 1-on-1 Business Consultations. It includes up to date information on over 86,000 local businesses.

What does it do?

If you’re researching an industry, you can quickly find your biggest competitors. If you’re looking for a supplier, promptly find the ones closest to you, the largest supplier, or a variety of suppliers you can contact. Find the largest employers in a small town or the names and contact information for fellow business owners in your area. You can even find out how many new businesses have just opened in the past year in your chosen industry, where they are and how big they are.

Pretty valuable information for a start-up isn’t it?

How do I use it?

There is so much information packed into this book, it can be hard to know where to start. So, here’s a little rundown of its different sections.

Section 1: Businesses by City

Businesses are separated by city or town, and then listed alphabetically. This section is great if you have a particular business in mind to research—maybe it’s your competition or perhaps a potential supplier or customer. Just look them up and you’ll find:

  • a credit rating code
  • a year code (related to how many years they’ve been in business)
  • employee size
  • sales volume/output (in $)
  • contact information including the address, phone number and the full name of the owner or manager

Section 2: Businesses by Category

Start with your industry and find businesses that operate in that category across Atlantic Canada. Use this section to locate suppliers or research an industry. For each business you’ll find:

  • contact information including the address, phone number
  • employee Size code
  • SIC code for each industry

Section 3: Major Employers

Find the top employers in a city. Under each city is a list of business with over 100 employees, including the business' contact information.

Section 4: Manufacturers by City and Sic Code

Manufacturers are listed in two ways; search by city or search by industry.
