Dogs are a young reader's best friend.
The Paws to Read® program gives kids the chance to build their confidence by reading to a dog—they're excellent listeners!
How it works
- The program is open to children in Grades 1-5.
- Your child will be matched with a reading therapy dog and their volunteer handler (who are certified by Therapeutic Paws of Canada, opens a new window) for 30 minute sessions.
- You'll need to sign up in advance. This program is popular and space is limited.
Where and when
We offer Paws to Read® at a number of our locations. However, this popular program is often fully booked. There are places available at a couple of locations or, if you prefer, you can wait for a spot to open up at the Library of your choice.
Temporary Suspension of Visits
March 24, 2022: Therapeutic Paws of Canada continues to take precautions with their Paws to Read program across Canada by suspending all visits due to the COVID-19 virus. Visits are now expected to resume later this year. Please reach out to Therapeutic Paws of Canada, opens a new window if you have any questions. The Library will update this web page when TPOC resumes visits.
