Woodlawn Library Update

Due to a delay in the delivery of shelving for the entire Woodlawn Library, the opening of the new branch will be postponed. As a result, library services will continue to be provided to the community throughout February and until the end of March Break at the current location.

The new branch was scheduled to open at the end of February. “We would have opened the new branch had any other piece of furniture been delayed, but shelving is critical. The library just can’t function without it. While we understand that this is disappointing news, we are pleased that library service will not be interrupted,” said Judith Hare, CEO of Halifax Public Libraries.

“We’re dealing with external vendors and a number of public tenders. Unfortunately, the delivery date for the shelving is out of our control. The good news is that the construction of the branch is on track and the rest of the schedule is proceeding as planned. As soon as the shelving is received, we will move very quickly to get the new branch open. We hope this will be just after Easter,” said Hare.

When it opens, the new 17,000 sq. ft. facility will be located on Eisener Boulevard in the former Cineplex building. The new branch will be open seven days a week, will have bookable study rooms, separate areas for children, teens and adults, a 100-seat auditorium, interactive media and floor-to-ceiling windows throughout.

Halifax Public Libraries is the life-long learning centre of the community and the place people turn to for the discovery of ideas, the joy of reading and the power of information.
